Safe today, safer tomorrow: The 2015 Enbridge Safety Report to the Community
How our safety mindset challenges assumptions and seeks better performance
In 2015, Enbridge transported 2,861,591,093 barrels of oil.
We spilled 279 of those barrels—264 within our facilities, 15 outside Enbridge property.
It’s the best annual safe delivery record in our recent history. But we believe, as you do, that even one spill is too many. And the 2015 Enbridge Safety Report to the Community, released online today, offers further evidence of our safety mindset—and the steps we take to keep communities safe.
“Our approach to safety is based on challenging assumptions and always striving for better performance,” says Enbridge President and CEO Al Monaco. “Last year’s results show that we’re making strong progress.
The 2015 Enbridge Safety Report to the Community is now available and downloadable at enbridge.com, with hard copies being distributed in the coming weeks to thousands of our neighbors near Enbridge’s pipelines and facilities across the U.S. and Canada.
The 2015 Enbridge Safety Report to the Community chronicles:
- Our 2015 safety performance, and how it compares to previous years;
- How we prepare, through constant practice and training;
- How we prevent incidents through additional layers of safety, including creation of a new flood monitoring system; and
- How we respond, including our safe digging outreach to prevent future incidents.
“The statistics tell us that our safety focus is making a difference,” says Mike Koby, Enbridge’s Vice President of Enterprise Safety and Operational Reliability. “At the same time, we apply what we learn from every incident to become even safer.”
